New militant group; “Red Scorpion” allegedly blows up Shell pipeline


A new militant group known as the ‘Red Scorpion’ in the early hours of yesterday allegedly blew up another gas pipe line owned by Shell in the oil rich Community of Awara in Ohaji/ Egbema council area of Imo state, The Sun reports.

It would recalled that the group had earlier on Tuesday claimed responsibility for blowing up two pipelines belonging to Elf Oil Company in Awara in Ohaji Egbema Council Area of Imo State and served a quit order to all oil companies operating in Ohaji/ Egbema and Oguta councils to evacuate their workers and leave the oil communities immediately.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the company, Mr. Precious Okolobo said that the trans Niger Pipeline which runs through Awara as the Assa Rumuekpe line has been shut for repairs since June 8, 2016, following a leak at Okolo launch near Bonny in Rivers state. He however said that they are investigating the reported incident at Awara in Ohaji/ Egbema council area Imo state.
