The troops of the Nigerian Army have killed 13 members of the Boko Haram Sect during a shootout at Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the troops of the 119 Task Force Battalion killed the insurgents during a clearance operation in the area on Monday.
He said that a soldier died in the attack while three others were wounded in the battle which lasted for four hours.
He said that fighter jets of the NAF were mobilized to the area when the ground troops called for air support.
According to him the NAF deployed ground attack fighter aircraft and an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance air craft for the battle against the insurgents.
“According the him, the troops ‘neutralized two Hilux vehicles belonging to the insurgents and recovered the following : a Hilux vehicle, one Browning Machine Gun, one Anti Aircraft Gun, two General Purpose Machine Guns, one Light Machine Gun, 2 Rocket Propelled Guns Seven tubes and bombs, five AK-47 Rifles and 550 Rounds of Anti-Aircraft Gun ammunition.’
Usman said that several insurgents abandoned their weapons and fled the battle field with gunshot wounds.
