Adamawa: Declare our candidate winner, SDP tells SIEC

The Social Democratic Party has called on the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission to declare its candidate, Simon Tompeyo, winner of the local government election held in Lamurde LGA.

The party which claimed that its candidate won the election and not the candidate of All Progressives Congress, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the APC to caution the Adamawa SIEC and immediately inaugurate its candidate, “who is the winner of the election.”

The SDP said it would proceed to the election petition tribunal to seek redress over the perceived anomaly.

A statement issued in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Alfa Mohammed, insisted that the Saturday, August 6, 2016, chairmanship poll in Lamurde LGA was won by the SDP.

He said, “Our party, fortunately, won the election with our candidate, Simon Tompeyo, polling 11, 138 votes ahead of the APC candidate who polled 10,740 votes. The Returning Officer, Anuhu Abba, duly announced the results and returned our candidate as elected, with the result sheet signed, stamped and issued; all the proceedings were captured in a video.

“However, in a sudden twist, the electorate was arm-twisted and our party’s candidate robbed of his hard-won victory with the commission refusing to issue a certificate of return to our candidate and proceeded to inaugurate the APC candidate who came second in the election.
