The Group Managing Director, Obijackson Group, Dr. Ernest Obiejesi-Azudialu has said that the company’s subsidiary, Century Power, is looking to add 500 megawatts to the nation’s power grid, just as he challenged the rhetoric that Africa needed to go green even though all realistic indications pointed that the continent was not ready, The Punch reports.

He said this while speaking on the Powering Africa panel at the London School of Economics Africa Summit held recently, where he was also quoted to have stressed the need for private-public partnership in Africa’s quest for efficient energy supply. Obiejesi-Azudialu challenged the rhetoric that Africa needed to go green even though all realistic indications pointed that the continent was not ready given the availability of carbon based resources.

He called for investment in greener energy in Africa, saying the link between access to electricity and development on the continent made it a top priority but he added that while the West had used carbon-based energy to develop its infrastructure, Africa should also go through the trajectory and learn from the challenges they had faced.
